face of saybrook

how

All photographs were taken in the Saybrook common room during dinner. The camera used was some big fancy thing, and I unfortunately don't remember what it was.

Originally, the faces were going to be averaged with some pretty sweet software created by a psychology lab in Scotland. Those guys do a REALLY good job, and you can see their work here. Ultimately, the amount of time required to use this software proved too large. I developed a simpler, albeit lower quality, method. The software allowed me to click the location of the eyes and mouth on each image. The images were then rotated and resized so the eyes would line up, and then the pixel values were averaged. All of this work was done using Matlab. The source code is available here. »«
